Have you ever shared something that really, truly spoke to you, only to find out that others saw it in a way you never expected? I recently posted a quote on our Instagram page that truly spoke to me: “The sun will rise, and we will try again.”
To me, it was a beautiful reminder of resilience—a gentle acknowledgment that life’s challenges don’t define us, and we always have the opportunity to start anew. But the responses I received surprised me. Some people saw it as a symbol of perseverance, a push to keep going even when life gets tough. Others, however, took it quite literally, sharing jokes about their laundry not drying because of the weather. Their interpretations were all over the place, but each one had its own unique meaning. This experience really hit home for me, reminding me that how we see things can change everything.
Perspective and Healing
When we’ve experienced trauma, our perspective can become clouded by pain and fear. It’s as if we’re looking at the world through a lens smudged with hurt. But don’t worry, there’s hope! With time, support, and self-reflection, that lens can shift. By changing how we view ourselves and our experiences, we open the door to healing.
For example, instead of seeing a difficult moment as a failure, we can choose to view it as a lesson. Instead of focusing on what we’ve lost, we can honor the strength it took to keep going. This isn’t about ignoring pain or pretending things are fine when they’re not; it’s about recognizing that there are multiple ways to interpret our experiences, and some of those ways can empower us to grow.
Framing our Thoughts
How we frame our thoughts and beliefs shapes the energy we bring into the world. If we constantly tell ourselves, “I’ll never succeed,” we’re likely to feel stuck and unmotivated. But if we shift that narrative to something like, “I am capable, and every small step I take moves me closer to my goals,” we begin to cultivate the confidence and determination needed to create the life we want.
Changing perspective doesn’t mean ignoring reality—it means choosing to focus on what empowers us. The sun rising every day is a fact, but what it symbolizes is entirely up to us. It can be a gentle reminder of all the things on our to-do list, or it can be a sign of new and exciting possibilities, a fresh start waiting for us to embrace it.
Simple Practices to Shift your Perspective
If you find yourself feeling stuck or overwhelmed, here are some simple practices to help you shift your perspective:
- Affirmations for a New Lens
- Write or repeat affirmations that encourage growth and resilience. For example, “I have the strength to try again” or “Every challenge teaches me something valuable.”
- Journaling for Reflection
- Take a moment to write about a recent challenge. Ask yourself: How else can I view this situation? What’s one positive takeaway?
- Practice Gratitude
- Shifting your focus to the positive can help balance feelings of stress or negativity. Each morning, take a moment to jot down three things you’re grateful for.
- Seek out Different Perspectives
- Talk to friends, family, or even a therapist about how they might interpret a situation you’re facing. You’ll be surprised by how much a fresh viewpoint can help!
The Sun will rise, and we will try again
Paulo Coelho
Life is filled with moments that can be interpreted in countless ways. The beauty of perspective is that it’s fluid; it can grow and change as we do. The next time you encounter a challenge, remember that you have the power to choose how you see it. Whether you view it as a stumbling block or a stepping stone is entirely up to you.
The sun will rise, and we will try again. And each new day offers a chance to see the world—and ourselves—in a new light.
